The New York Giants, which was founded in 1925, played a huge role in the success of the early NFL. Since the National Football League was still young, it needed to attract fans and media nationwide and having a team in New York helped big-time, which was demonstrated in the Giants’ first-ever NFL season on December 1925 that filled up 70,000 seats at the Giants-Bears game.
In 1927, the New York Giants won their very first NFL championship thanks to tackle Steve Owen, who later became the team’s coach in 1930 and 23 seasons thereafter. Owen, with the help of center-linebacker Mel Hein and halfback Ken Strong, led the giants to win 8 Eastern division titles within 14 seasons and 2 NFL championships. Other notable coaches who prepped up the New York Giants receive 6 Eastern division titles and another NFL Championship are Jim Lee Howell and Allie Sherman. However, it was under head coach Bill Parcels that the New York Giants won three Division titles and two Super Bowls (1986 and 1990).
