When the New York Knicks first started selling tickets, the team was still a part of the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The Knicks actually played in the very first game of the BAA against the Toronto Huskies in 1946. At that time, the team was also known as the Knickerbockers, which is actually the full name from which the nickname ìKnicksî was derived. The Knicks would first sell NBA tickets in 1949, when the BAA and the NBA merged. The Knicks made it to the Playoffs in its first ten seasons as a professional basketball team, gaining the respect of fans and players alike.
Throughout franchise history, the New York Knicks has been able to compile eight division titles, eight conference titles, and two championship titles (1970, 1973). The last time the Knicks made it to the NBA Playoffs was in the 2004 Playoffs, when the team was eliminated in the First Round by the New Jersey Nets. Coming into the 2008-2009 season, though, the Knicks are hoping to break the streak and make it into the Playoffs.
The team certainly has the talent needed to make it to the 2009 Playoffs with players such as Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph, and Quentin Richardson. Some of the other players on the New York Knicks squad include Chris Duhon, Eddy Curry, and David Lee. Head coach Mike D'Antoni will be drawing up plays for the team.
